Portfolio / Work That Gets Done

The business question · Managed automation

“Which work should run itself?”

The concept

Managed, not scripted

Proven products and one scheduler replace home-made scripts.

How it works
Recurring work runs as managed workflows in one engine and one queue, each one timed, logged and raising an alarm when it fails.
Why it matters
Automation survives staff changes and audits, and a failure surfaces the same day instead of weeks later.
The result
The publish, the morning brief, the inventory refresh and the intake pipeline run on schedule and say when they did not.

The business problem

Quiet scripts work until the day nobody is watching.

Automation often starts as quick scripts that work until the person who wrote them leaves. Document publishing, inventory refreshes, morning briefings and data collection all needed to run on schedule, reliably and visibly.

Why this concept

A managed workflow engine and one job queue, with every job timed, logged and alarmed

A managed engine shows what ran, what failed and what is next; a hidden script does not.

Also considered

  • Scripts scheduled on the server

How it works

Managed, not scripted

Schedule

Recurring business work

Workflow engine

Runs it as a managed workflow

Job queue

Limits and a record for every job

Alarm

Raised when a job fails

Result

Work that says when it did not run

What we put in place

  • Moved recurring business workflows into a managed workflow engine that the main agent drives.
  • Put every command an agent sends to the server through one job queue with limits and a record.
  • Wrapped scheduled jobs so each one is timed, logged and alarmed after repeated failures.
  • Made it a rule that anything new is registered and wired into checks before it counts as done.

The result

Before

Quiet scripts work until the day nobody is watching.

After

The publish, the morning brief, the inventory refresh and the intake pipeline run on schedule and say when they did not.
